Welcome all to the Rotanote for week forty-one of the Rotary 2018-19 year. For the meeting on 10 June we had two speakers – Janine Ewan from Dove Hospice and Jackie Richardson from the Great Potentials Foundation – more in the bulletin.
Our scheduled speaker for last week, Ray Calvert, a youth justice senior practitioner, was unfortunately unable to make it to the meeting. So a couple of club members, Dennis Millard and Nick Fitness, stepped into the breech. Dennis regaled us with his experience with a man overboard drill on the Soren Larsen in the middle of the Pacific. Suffice to say the crew were thankful it was just an exercise – the life jacket representing the unfortunate crew member was never seen again. Nick gave us his take on the current investing climate and where are you able to earn a reasonable return without taking on undue risk?
For the last meeting on 24 June before changeover, we have Dr Bruce Hayward, a geologist, palaeontologist and marine ecologist, introducing us to Auckland’s volcanic fields.
